Add Cover Pages to Faxes
Adding a cover page to your fax lets you include a short message that provides the recipient some context about the fax. There are several ways to include the cover page.
What do you want to do?
- Use the default cover page (see below).
- Use your own cover page.
Use the Default Cover Page
eFax Corporate automatically formats a cover page for you when you send a fax via the Message Center or an external email account. If sending the fax:
- On the Message Center's Send a Fax form (via Send a Fax): Check the box next to Include Cover Page, then fill out the Subject and Message fields .
- Through an external email account (via Use "eFax Corporate by Email"): Any text included in the email's body will also appear on the cover page. (NOTE: If you don't want the text to appear on the cover page, see Additional Cover-Page Options.) The Subject of the email will be used as the Subject of the cover page. The information in the To field of the email will be used for the cover page's recipient name, sender name, and company name (as shown in the table below; you can also use the To field to toggle the cover page on and off, via the cp cover-page option in the table below).
If sending the fax through an external email account, then:
- To specify cover-page options, enter any of the two-letter codes (shown below) in the To line of the email.
Cover-Page Option | Description | Format |
---|---|---|
to | The To name on the cover page | to=John_Doe |
fr | The From name on the cover page | fr=Jane_Doe |
co | The Company name on the cover page | co=Doe_Sprockets |
cp | The cover page's on/off toggle | cp=on, cp=off |
- When using these options, keep the following rules in mind:
- Parameters (i.e., cover-page options) must come between the fax number and the @ symbol in the email address.
- Separators (/) must be used between each parameter.
- For the company—or any individual's—name in the address line, use the underscore (_) in place of spaces.
- If any of the cover-page options are not understood by eFax Corporate, the fax will still go through if the recipient's fax number is valid
- Shown below are examples of how to use the options:
- 13235551234/cp=on/to=John_Doe/fr=Jane_Doe/co=Doe_Sprockets@efaxsend.com
- 13235551234/cp=on/to=John_Doe/co=Doe_Sprockets@efaxsend.com
- 13235551234/cp=on/to=Doe_Sprockets@efaxsend.com
- 13235551234/cp=off@efaxsend.com
If you wish, you may also attach up to 9 files (20MB max) if sending the fax via the Message Center's Send a Fax form—and up to 10 files (20MB max) if sending the fax via an external email account.
Use Your Own Cover Page
If you prefer, you can use a cover page of your own design to attach to a fax sent via the Message Center or an external email account.
- Your cover page can be created in any file format currently supported by eFax Corporate for sending faxes.
- IMPORTANT! To be sure it is the first page transmitted, attach the cover-page file as the very first attachment.
To use your own cover page:
- First: Turn off the default cover page. To do so:
- If sending a fax via the Message Center's Send a Fax form: Uncheck the Include Cover Page box.
- If sending a fax via your external email account:
- Leave the body of the email blank (this includes removing any automatic signatures you may have set)—OR—enter the cp=off code in the To: field (see the cp description in the table of the above procedure).
- If you don't want to remove the signature—or you can't remove it, because it is set at the server level—you can tell eFax Corporate to "ignore it as cover-page material" by using the {nocoverpage} tag in the body of the email. (NOTE: Further information regarding this tag can be found in Additional Cover-Page Options.)
- Second: Attach your cover page FIRST, then any other documents (20MB max). NOTE: Regarding the attachments other than your cover page: You can attach up to 8 more files, if sending the fax via the Message Center'sSend a Fax form—and up to 9 more files, if sending the fax via an external email account.
